HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A sex offender who molested a girl at a Hillsboro library has been sentenced to life in prison under Oregon’s three-strikes law. The Oregonian reports his conviction in September made 71-year-old Douglas Sokell of Forest Grove eligible for life in prison without parole. He was sentenced last week in Washington County. Sokel had two previous sex abuse convictions and has pending charges in Wasco County.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say they have a suspect in custody in the killing of a man at the Norpac frozen foods processing plant in Salem. The suspect was identified last night as a 44-year-old Keizer resident. The body of 46-year-old Eric P. Davis was found yesterday morning. He had worked for Norpac five years as a warehouse supervisor.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A motorcade of hundreds of public safety vehicles is expected to roll from Oregon City to Portland this morning to a memorial service for reserve officer Robert Libke, killed responding to a disturbance. The motorcade leaves Clackamas Community College in Oregon City at 10:45 a.m. The memorial service at Veterans memorial Coliseum in Portland begins at 1 p.m. Libke was fatally shot Nov. 3 responding to a house that was set on fire. The 88-year-old gunman then killed himself.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Joseph Young scored 28 of his career-high 36 points in the second half to help No. 18 Oregon rout Western Carolina 107-83 in Eugene last night. Mike Moser added 26 points and Elgin Cook had 16 for the Ducks, who opened the season with a win against Georgetown last Friday in South Korea.
