PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office is investigating an attack on a gay Portland man and his friend at Bagby Hot Springs as a possible hate crime. Lt. Robert Wurpes tells The Oregonian the men met two strangers Dec. 2 while soaking in the hot springs in the Mount Hood National Forest. After the discussion turned to sexual orientation, the strangers attacked the two men, beating the Portland man on the head with a flashlight. The strangers fled.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The teenager accused of plotting to bomb West Albany High School plans an insanity defense. Lawyers for Grant Acord has filed the paperwork in Benton County Circuit Court telling the Corvallis Gazette-Times the 17-year-old was unable to follow the law because of his obsessive-compulsive disorder. Prosecutors may order their own mental evaluation for Acord,

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More sex abuse charges have been filed against a Portland emergency room nurse accused of assaulting women. Jeffrey McAllister pleaded not guilty yesterday to rape and other charges in a new indictment accusing him of abusing two additional women. The Oregonian reports he now is accused of sexually abusing nine women while working at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. He was fired in April.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) – State Police say a southern Oregon man and his sister-in-law are dead and his brother is seriously injured after their SUV was hit by a freight train at a marked rail crossing south of Klamath Falls. Police identified the driver in yesterday’s collision as 33-year-old MacKenzie Conway.
