CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Angus Brandt scored 27 points as Oregon State withstood a late charge to defeat Towson 76-67 yesterday. Oregon State (6-2) used a 17-3 run – eight by Brandt – to open up a 12-point lead at halftime at 41-29. The Beavers ran the lead to 21 at 55-34 with 10:27 left after Victor Robbins’ layup.

KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) – Washington State rolled over San Francisco State 80-50 behind a game-high 22 points from DaVonte Lacy at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Wash., last night. The Cougars (6-4) used a 13-3 run late in the first half to blow open a close game. Lacy hit three 3-pointers to give them a big lead at halftime and overcome a sluggish start and win their third consecutive game.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Kevin Love had 29 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 120-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers last night. Damian Lillard had 36 points, six assists and six rebounds and LaMarcus Aldridge had 15 points and 14 boards for the weary Trail Blazers, who lost for the first time in six games. It was just their fifth loss of the season and came at the end of a four-game road trip.

SEATTLE (AP) – The Mariners have re-signed oft-injured outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to a $1 million, one-year contract, adding needed depth to their outfield. Seattle announced the deal yesterday following a physical. Gutierrez chose to return to Seattle for a sixth season hoping he can finally stay healthy.
