PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – More than 400 people showed up at last night’s Portland school board meeting to show their support for teachers who are still without a contract after more than nine months of talks. The Oregonian reports that students eventually disrupted the meeting with loud chants. Students said they would strike with teachers if the district decides to impose a contract. Negotiations will resume Thursday.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A woman crossing the road in front of her home to go to her mailbox was struck and killed by a pickup truck late yesterday in rural Washington County. The sheriff’s office says the driver didn’t see her until the last second. Deputies say Joan Carol Deyoung-Burklund died at the scene.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A 65-year-old southern Oregon woman charged with murder, corpse abuse and identity theft has been ordered held without bail. The Medford Mail Tribune reports that Susan Monica of Rogue River has been jailed since her arrest last Friday for investigation of identity theft. Monica was arraigned yesterday afternoon on the three charges. Jackson County investigators have not identified the alleged victim.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man has been sentenced to 22½ years in federal prison for two Portland-area armed bank robberies in late 2012. Prosecutors say Daniel Arthur Carter admitted he robbed a Chase Bank in Tigard, stole a car from a customer and got away with more than $17,000. He also robbed a U.S. Bank in southwest Portland, failed to steal a car and was running away with nearly $12,000 when police arrested him.
