LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jonathan Quick made 28 saves in his 27th NHL shutout, Dustin Brown scored early in the third period, and the Los Angeles Kings beat Vancouver 1-0 last night for their fourth win over the Canucks this season. Brown converted on a 3-on-1 rush just 24 seconds into the final period of a fight-filled game for the Kings, and Quick was unbeatable while making his fifth consecutive start since returning from a 24-game injury absence.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll are not surprised that the Seattle Seahawks are seeing division rival San Francisco in the NFC championship game. Both the Seahawks quarterback and coach said yesterday they see the title matchup as a sign of just how good the NFC West has become. Their comments came two days after Seattle advanced to the conference title game by knocking off the Saints 23-15 on Saturday.

MIAMI (AP) – A former Seattle Mariners player who broke Japan’s single-season home run record last year has been arrested in Florida on domestic violence charges. Court records show Wladimir Balentien is facing a felony false imprisonment charge and a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a weekend confrontation at his wife’s Miami-area house.

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Nevada senior point guard Deonte Burton has been named the Mountain West Conference’s Player of the Week for the second time this season. Burton averaged 21.5 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in a pair of victories as Nevada extended its league record to 4-0, 9-8 overall.
