SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marijuana, guns and a new bridge over the Columbia River will be the hot topics in the Oregon Legislature this year. Under the state constitution, the session can last no longer than five weeks. The session is scheduled to begin at 8:30 this morning.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Agriculture is waiting to hear from a task force before recommending legislation on genetically modified crops. The Statesman Journal reports that Gov. John Kitzhaber asked for an action plan in October. He’d like to see a buffer zone between GMO crops and conventional crops.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – An ATV crash on private property in Prineville killed one man and caused minor injuries to two others. The Crook County sheriff’s office says deputies who responded to the scene late Saturday night found the vehicle had rolled over on top of the victim, 22-year-old Tyler Robert Pierce of Prineville, who died at the scene. The man operating the ATV was booked on a manslaughter charge.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police say an 18-year-old girl who disappeared on her way to work yesterday at a fast-food restaurant in Gresham was found by patrol officers. Police say she is safe and with her family. She is from Afghanistan and has been in this country only a year.
