HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon man whose car struck and killed an 11-year-old girl in her front yard after he suffered a diabetic episode has been sentenced to four years in prison. In charging 60-year-old David Herman of Hillsboro, prosecutors alleged that he had a long history of ignoring his doctor’s orders for managing his diabetes and had suffered a driving episode once before. His driver’s license was revoked for life.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Sherwood man from Mexico who has been in the United States as a legal permanent resident has been taken into custody for deportation because of a sex crime conviction. ICE officials say 20-year-old Yahphol Valentin Patino-Cardena was convicted in January of attempted sexual abuse of a child. Patino-Cardena played soccer with the Vancouver Spartans Futbol Club.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Vancouver, Wash., police say an officer shot and wounded an armed Portland man early yesterday as police responded to a report of a large number of people fighting downtown. Police say 21-year-old Darryl Humphrey Jr. was treated at a hospital and later booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder and assault.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – UCLA ran away from Oregon with a big second-half run for an 82-63 rout over the Ducks in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament last night. UCLA had a superb night shooting and clamped down on Oregon in the second half to turn what had been a close game into a runaway. The Bruins advance to today’s semifinals against Stanford.
