DURHAM, Ore. (AP) – Cover Oregon says it owes about $900,000 to the health insurance agents who were trained and certified through the exchange and have enrolled thousands of Oregonians, but who have not been paid since enrollment began. The admission came after a board meeting yesterday during which an angry agent told officials he hasn’t been paid over the past five months.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The leaders of Metro say the firing of the Oregon Zoo’s director and top veterinarian is related to the death in January of a 20-year-old orangutan. The Oregonian reports Metro, the regional government that runs the zoo, says the leaders of Metro “concluded mistakes were made and important information was not fully disclosed.” It didn’t provide details.

ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) – The ski area at Mount Ashland has eliminated its general manager’s job after a winter without snow strained its finances. The Daily Tidings reports the elimination of the job held by Kim Clark since 2007 is the first step in a yearlong reorganization. The ski area was not able to open for the first time in its history.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A cleanup operation of spilled diesel fuel is nearing an end. Two months ago, a semitrailer truck towing a load of 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel crashed near Pendleton. The spilled fuel soaked into a ditch and spread through the ground. Contractors say they dug until they reached soil with almost undetectable levels of fuel, clean enough to satisfy state regulators.
