NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard rescued a fisherman off the Oregon coast after his boat sank yesterday morning near Newport. The master of the 28-foot fishing vessel Rip Rider contacted the Coast Guard at 8:20 a.m. to say his boat was taking on water. He was wearing survival gear and his radio beacon broadcast his exact location to rescuers.

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Searchers have found the body of a woman missing for more than three weeks in Vancouver, Washington. KATU-TV reports Beverly Goheen disappeared early in the morning of April 29 after she left a Vancouver hospital. The Clark County sheriff’s office says her family and friends had been looking for clues to her disappearance but found her remains on Saturday near where she was last seen.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Police gang enforcement officers are investigating shots fired Saturday night in Northeast Portland. The Oregonian reports the incident adds to a growing list of suspected gang-related shootings in Portland. Callers reported hearing gunshots at 9:48 p.m., just east of Grand Avenue. Witnesses saw two vehicles leaving the scene. Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers found evidence of gunfire, but no victims.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A union of graduate student teachers at the University of Oregon has voted to authorize a strike while negotiations with the administration stall. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the graduate students’ last contract expired March 31. Major issues such as wages and health care costs remain unsettled. A strike wouldn’t take place until the fall.
