It’s on with the show… This is it.

The marquee is lit; the popcorn machine primed; there is fresh carpet in the lobby; and you won’t stick to the floor.

Perhaps more important, is that there will be images on the screen.

The doors open this afternoon for the first four features at the City Lights Cinema in Florence.

It’s been more than a year that Florence has had a ‘front-line-first-run’ cinema.

A Washington State couple, Michael Falter and Susan Tive (tyve) have been in the process of removing the old film projectors and converting the cinemas to a digital system. They are also currently finalizing their beer and wine license application so movie-goers can enjoy an adult beverage.

Ticket prices are $9 for adults, but residents can buy low-cost annual memberships… less than 50-bucks a year… that will reduce the price to as low as six-fifty.

In addition to first run movies, the cinema will also show ‘art house’ features. Sunday afternoon will be a free presentation of the BBC World War One documentary, “Royal Cousins at War”.

Walla Walla Based Bank Buys Siuslaw

The parent group of Siuslaw Bank is being purchased by Walla Walla, Washington based Banner Bank.

Banner is acquiring Siuslaw Financial Group in a deal valued at more than $57-million.

The deal was announced yesterday after financial markets had closed; it was approved unanimously by directors of both banks.

Banner had recently purchased five former Umpqua Bank branches in Coos Bay and North Bend… part of Umpqua’s acquisition of Sterling Bank.

Siuslaw CEO and Founder Johan Mehlum said the move allows them to partner with a “strong community bank” and will provide additional services to Siuslaw Bank customers.

Relay For Life

As of last night they already had $60-thousand in the bank… and organizers of the Florence Relay For Life are hoping for another 40-grand by the end of this month.

That’s when the books officially close on the local fund raiser for the American Cancer Society at Miller Park.

Members of the Oregon Pacific Bank team… “Banking on Life”… have already brought in more than $14-thousand.

Luminaria will be lit at nine this evening. That’s after the “motorcycle lap”. Bikers of all manner and ilk are invited to join that lap at 7:45. They’ll begin lining up at about 7:15 at the south end of Miller Park.

Tomorrow morning will feature the finals of the Florence Got Talent competition at 9:30, followed by the “Code Red Party Band performing from ten up until the closing ceremony at 11:30.

Three applicants were interviewed by the rest of the board members Wednesday evening.
