RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin wished the best of luck to former San Francisco 49ers and new Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Baldwin played for Harbaugh at Stanford and was asked for his thoughts on Harbaugh leaving San Francisco to take the head coach job at Michigan.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – For years, college football fans pleaded for a playoff. Now it’s here and it starts at the sport’s most hallowed venue, with two Heisman Trophy winners and the defending national champions. Marcus Mariota and second-seeded Oregon (12-1) face Jameis Winston and third-seeded Florida State (13-0) today in the first national semifinal ever played at college football’s highest level.

MONTREAL (AP) – Arizona Coyotes prospect Max Domi scored two empty-net goals to help Canada beat the United States 5-3 yesterday in the World Junior Championship. Captain Curtis Lazar and Sam Reinhart also scored for Canada. The Canadians finished 4-0 in round-robin play in Group A to advance to a quarterfinal in Toronto against the fourth-place team in Group B.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Antti Niemi earned his 30th NHL shutout, and third of the season, with 28 saves, Joe Pavelski scored his second goal of the game during a two-man advantage, and the San Jose Sharks beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 last night. Frederik Andersen made 24 saves for the Ducks, who own the league’s best record despite being shut out for the second time this season.
