Mapleton falls in Mountain West League openers

The scoreboard may not have shown it, but coach Jess Crook says her Mapleton Girls had one of their better nights on the season in a 56-5 Mountain West League loss to Triangle Lake. Crook said Josi Hays came alive at the post, pulling down 18 rebounds. The rest of the team came together and played well.

For the boys, Hunter Simington led scoring with 11 points. He had three rebounds, eight steals and one block. But, the Sailors fell to Triangle Lake 59-32. The Sailors, boys and girls, will be at Siletz Valley tomorrow night.

Siuslaw was in Sutherlin last night for non-league boys’ basketball. The Bulldogs came out on top over the Vikings 65-38.

On the college court… Elgin Cook matched his career high with 26 points and Oregon remained perfect at home with a 78-63 victory over UC Irvine last night.  The Ducks will host Long Beach State Friday night.
