Trent Reavis caught just two passes Friday night, but both of them were for touchdowns, as the Siuslaw Vikings routed the visiting Newport Cubs 37-7 at home.  Reavis also returned an interception 40 yards for his third touchdown.  Nick Steinman had his own “pick-six”… for 69 yards.  The Vikings open Far West League play on the road Friday night against the Douglas Trojans.

Sailors fall on the road

Falls-City/Kings Valley shut down the Mapleton Sailors in the two teams’ Mountain West League opener Friday night 58-14.

Viking XC

Celie Mans dominated the girls’ varsity division at the Northwest Classic Cross Country Invitational Saturday at LCC in Eugene.  The Viking senior won the event in 19:09… a full 1:35 ahead of the second place finisher… Kara Putman from Tillamook.

The Viking boys had four runners in the top 25 starting with Isaac Griffes (GRIFF-ess) in 14th.  Jack Pickell (pih-KELL) was 21st, Brendon Jenseon 22nd and Kiger Johnson was 24th.

Ducks lose in Lincoln

Nebraska’s Tommy Armstrong Junior scored on a 34-yard quarterback draw with 2:29 left and the Cornhuskers’ defense held on Oregon’s final series Saturday afternoon for a 35-32 victory over the 22nd ranked Oregon Ducks in Lincoln.

Beavers snap ten-game losing skid

In Corvallis, the Oregon State Beavers broke a ten-game losing streak that dated back to early last season with a 37-7 victory over the Idaho State Bengals.

Darrell Garretson threw for 172 yards and ran for a touchdown.  Victor Bolden ran for 111 yards on just three carries… including a 92-yard touchdown run… the second longest in Oregon State history.
