Cross Country season coming to a head

The Far West League District Cross Country meet is set for tomorrow at Tugman State Park in Lakeside.  The girls’ varsity race begins at noon; the boys’ at 12:45.  They’ll be followed at 1:30 by a combined boys and girls JV race with awards at 2:15.

Fees should not be deterrent to participation

Winter sports registration at Siuslaw High School and Middle School are now open and parents are reminded of a program designed to offset the cost of participation.  Fees to participate at the high school are $100; at the middle school they are $75.

But, the Ian Foster Fund, administered by the Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club can pay the majority of that for students who need it.  Booster Club president Gina Castro-Brandt said the participation fee should not prevent students from being part of Siuslaw athletics.  The Ian Foster Scholarships pay $75 of the high school fee and $40 of the middle school fee.

Coaches and school offices have information on how to apply.
