Carissa Oliver; Softball Honors; Thompson Rolls

Oliver Knew

Viking Senior Carissa Oliver’s High School career as an athlete is finished, but she will also continue to focus on her abilities on the field.  This weekend she earned a state championship in the shot put at Hayward Field.  She said she was confident:

“I think I decided in between my 5th and 6th throw that I was going to win this…I want to win this!”

Oliver said that she had an incredible amount of energy surging just before the final throw, but even though she knew…She recognized the amount of dedication it took.

I worked for it.  I feel like it was such a battle.  And as soon as it happened I felt so much…Satisfaction.

Carissa Oliver was named Coast Radio’s Athlete of the Week.  She will attend Colorado State in the fall and study Biochemistry.

Ducks Receive Academic Honors

Oregon Ducks Softball team might be in the midst of a run at the championship, but two members of the team are also receiving honors off the field.  Meghan Kleist and Jenna Lilly have earned Pac-12 All Academic honors.  Kleist maintains a 3.85 gpa, and Lilly a 3.65.

Freshman Duck Rolls over Bears

Oregon Freshman Zack Noll pitched 5 innings of no hit baseball in the Ducks win over UC Riverside last night.  Oregon scored 10 runs and defeated the Bears 10 to 6.

Thompson Receives Another Honor

Beaver’s Jake Thompson Award roll continues as he was named this week’s Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week.  He is also a semi-finalist for the Dick Howser Award which honors the nation’s top Collegiate baseball player.  Finalists for the Howser honor will be named on June 8th.  And the award will be handed out at the College World Series on Saturday, June 17th.
