Buds 4 U Burglarized

Early Wednesday morning the Buds For U cannabis store was burglarized.  Sgt. Brandon Ott with the Florence Police Department reports that the alarm went off at 3:25 Wednesday morning and they responded.  Florence Police did not encounter any suspects at the time.  Dustin Foskett, the manager at Buds 4 U told Coast Radio News that the store was a mess and that they had already ordered windows to replace the ones that had been broken, but that inventory was secured.  There is not a current estimate of the cost of the damage.  Florence police are investigating and awaiting reports from Foskett as to the extent of the damage and whether or not anything was taken.  Foskett says the store is open and operating.

Papa Murphy’s Pizza Crash

Late Tuesday afternoon a customer crashed through the front of the Papa Murphys Take and Bake Pizza on 12th street.  Area Manager Wendy Belkin said that it was an unfortunate accident and that several of the glass and aluminum storefront panels were destroyed.  As a result of the accident the store had to close and they are currently working on replacements for the storefront.  According to Belkin they hope to be open Today. They have temporarily secured the building.  Florence police are investigating and there is currently no charge against the driver pending the completion of the investigation.

Chetco Fire Update

Efforts to contain the 156 square mile Chetco Bar Fire near Brookings was assisted by cooler marine moisture.  The weather allowed firefighters to move in and put down containment lines.  The month-long lightning caused fire is now the top firefighting priority in the nation.  There were no new evacuations ordered.  The fire is 5.2 miles northeast of Brookings and has experienced minimal growth in the last 24 hours and the same is expected for today.  There is little air movement and that has caused a smoke layer to cover areas from Brookings to Gold Beach.  Air quality is at unhealthy levels.  The Milli fire near Sisters Oregon has not benefitted as much from weather, but Fire authorities say they are getting a handle on it.  Yesterday was spent building containment lines, reducing the fuel load available to the fire.
