Oregon State Head Coach Pat Casey has been named Collegiate Baseball’s National Coach of the Year. Casey guided the Beavers to the program’s third national championship last week, and with a 5 run shutout victory over Arkansas, won his 900th game at Oregon State. The Beavers became just the second team in NCAA history to win six elimination games en route to the title. The other? Oregon State under Casey in 2006. Casey has now been named the National Coach of the Year by at least one publication in five different seasons. Collegiate Baseball has recognized him as its Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2018, following each of Oregon State’s national titles.
Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congraulate Elijah LaCosse as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Elijah finished the State Wrestling Championship in third place. After losing in the first round he went on to score 5 consecutive pins including a rematch against his first round opponent. He was one of only two wrestlers in the tournament to do that and scored 23 points in the 138 pound weight bracket.
Honorable mention goes to another Viking Wrestler, Hayden Muller who placed 4th in the 135 pound girls division.
