“I’m encouraging our community to let’s toot their horns for these people that make such a special impact in our world.”

The Siuslaw Awards will be held on January 23rd beginning at 5:30 pm at the Florence event center with dinner, wine and live music.

“It’s a big event and we want to make it as fun and exciting and prestigious as it deserves to be.”

Safe Shopping

If you are planning to do all or part of your holiday shopping on the internet this year, consumer groups have some tips to protect yourself from scams over the long holiday shopping season. Experts estimate that Americans will spend about 124-billion dollars in online sales between now and December 25th.  It is important to recognize that the business that you are purchasing items from is using a secure website.  Two determining factors in this is the “https” at the beginning of the web address and a “lock” icon on your web browser to make sure that the transaction in encrypted.  Also use a credit card rather than your bank card as most credit card companies have fraud protection built in to their services.  If you are in the giving spirit make sure to check out any charity soliciting money from you that you are not familiar with by going to give.org
