Neece Named Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, The Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate Mapleton High School Basketball player junior Nate Neece as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Nate set the momentum for the second half of Friday’s game against McKenzie scoring a crucial 3 pointer in the third tying the game. With 3 steals and 19 points including a pair of free throws to ice the game in the final minute, Coach Eric Wolgamatt says Nate’s 100 percent effort is indicative of the junior’s character.
Honorable mention goes to sophomore Viking Wrestler Elijah Lacosse who went 3 for 4 in matches at the Bend Invitational taking a 4th place finish.
Prep Action
The Sailors are on the hardwood of Mapleton High School tonight for a Mountain West League Boys and Girls double header. The boy’s game tips off at 5:30 with action against Alsea’s Wolverines. The girl’s game follows at 7 o’clock.
