Wrestlers Take Second in Cottage Grove; Junction City Takes Siuslaw; Mapleton Loses a Heartbreaker; Ducks Comeback; Huskies Still Unbeaten in PAC 12; Ladies Hoops; Bowling Team Advances to State

Wrestlers Take Second in Cottage Grove

It was a weekend for the ladies of the Siuslaw High School Wrestling team as two of them took first place titles.  Freshmen Bailey Overton and Hayden Muller helped lift the Vikings to a second place finish in Cottage Grove.  In addition junior Adriana Edwards took a second place finish and junior Kinga Bugajksa finished third in their divisions.  Matthew Horillo managed to come back from and early defeat to take six matches in a row including avenging his early loss to Noah Knight of Douglas.  Horillo finished 3rd in the 220 pound weight category.

Junction City Takes Siuslaw

On Friday night Junction City got out in front of the Vikings and managed to defeat Siuslaw on their home court. 54-39.  It was also a disappointing night for the lady Vikings as Junction City showed no mercy with a 65-27 victory.

Mapleton Loses a Heartbreaker

Mapleton took Crow to Overtime on Friday night but Crow held out in the closing seconds to take a 43-41 victory away from the Sailors.  JJ Neece led the team in scoring with 18 points helped by his brother Nate who added 15.  On the girls side the Sailors lost to Crow 36-21.

Ducks Comeback

The Oregon Ducks managed to get a win on Sunday defeating the Cougars of Washington State 78-58 despite trailing by 4 at half-time.  The Ducks held the Cougars to 19 second half points as the Ducks offense exploded scoring 43.

Huskies Still Unbeaten in PAC 12

The Huskies continue their unbeaten ways in the PAC 12 as they dispensed with Oregon State on Saturday.  Despite the Beaver’s Stephen Thompson Jr. scoring 30 points with a career high 6-3 pointers.  Washington held off the Beavers with a 79-69 victory.

Ladies Hoops

The OSU ladies took down Washington State last night 52-35.  The Duck women took down Washington 76-57.

Bowling Team Advances to State

The Siuslaw high school bowling team advances to the State tournament after repeating as reigning district champions.  They defeated North Bend in the championship game yesterday.  Viking’s Clay Kramer was named district MVP and fellow Viking Faith Coday was runner up.  Both the boys and the girl’s team qualify for the state championships to be held February 23rd and 24th in Salem.
