School Back in Session

Today is the first day of school for all of Siuslaw Schools.  Yesterday was orientation day for 6th and 9th graders.  Today all classes will be in session.  Drivers should beware of buses on the road and students that walk and bicycle to school.  A reminder too that school zone speed limits are active during the entire school day and not just in the morning and afternoon.  This evening from 5-7 pm Siuslaw Middle School will be holding a second grief support open house.  The event is for children, staff and parents that may need help in dealing with the loss of Siuslaw Middle School teacher Scott Anderson who died on August 25th.

Highway 101 Accident

A collision between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle yesterday afternoon resulted in one person being sent to Peace Health Medical center.  The accident occurred around 2:30 yesterday on Highway 101 just south of Heceta Beach Road.  Traffic was delayed southbound as Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue and Western Lane Ambulance assisted. The driver of the passenger vehicle was listed in stable condition.

Delays Expected on 126

Traffic delays continue this week on Highway 126 just west of Walton.  Crews are installing a culvert and at times traffic in both directions will be stopped for a large crane that has to move materials around the site.  Flaggers are in place 24/7 until Friday at noon.  Delays could be longer than usual.

Gas Prices Dip Slightly

Gas prices are down slightly following the Labor Day Weekend.  Locally in Florence the price of a gallon of regular gas has dropped 2 cents from last week and is currently at an average of $2.66 a gallon.  According to AAA Oregon prices should continue t see a downward trend in September, prior to refineries switching to winter blends in late October.
