Annual Pounding

The Annual Pounding to benefit the Florence Food Share will be on November 23rd.  The annual event gathers food and takes monetary donations to help stock the shelves in the food pantry for families and individuals for the holidays.  According to organizer, Cindy Wobbe, over 650 families in our community rely on the pantry for supplemental food stores.  Over 19 years the Pounding has delivered more than 120 thousand pounds of food to the pantry.  Local business, Top Hydraulics has offered again to match the amount of food with a cash donation.  For every pound of food collected Top Hydraulics will give one dollar.  Last year’s even raised almost 15 thousand pounds of food.  The site of the pounding will again be at Grocery Outlet, Saturday November 23, from 10 until 2 pm.

Free Thanksgiving Meal

The annual free Thanksgiving Day meal sponsored by the Florence Kiwanis Club will be happening at the Florence Elks Lodge from noon until 2pm on Thanksgiving day.  The event serves about 500 meals on Thanksgiving Day for the community.  It is a free meal and all are invited.  Food donations for the Florence Food Share and the Mapleton Food Share are welcome as well as cash donations.  There will also be free transportation provided by River City Taxi.  People needing this service will need to call ahead for scheduling.

Dental Work for Veterans

On Veteran’s Day the Korando Dental Group is offering some limited free services for Vets and their spouses.  The event will be from 7am until 3pm and is a first come, first serve basis.

Tree Lighting

Those of you who patiently await the arrival of the Christmas season will have to wait a week longer, at least to meet Santa Claus.  Traditionally the arrival of Santa and the lighting of the tree occur on the Saturday after thanksgiving.  this year the event has been moved out a week to Saturday the 7th of December.

Veteran’s Parade

Monday at 2 pm there will be a Veteran’s day Parade.  The parade will begin at the Florence Event center and come down Quince Street through Harbor, First Street, Nopal Street and end on Bay Street at the Veteran’s Memorial Park.
