Roblan to Retire

Veteran Oregon Legislator, Senator Arnie Roblan, has announced that he will not be seeking another term in office.  The District 5 Senator began as a state representative in 2004 and elected to the Oregon senate in 2012.  Roblan a former educator and principal at Marshfield says he wants to spend more time with family.  Roblan says he got into public service because he wanted to see more funding in the state’s education system.  Roblan was successful in getting the Student Success Act passed which he touts as his single biggest accomplishment while in service to the state.

Job Shadow Deadline

The deadline for Florence’s Job Shadow day is December 2nd.  The City of Florence along with the Chamber of Commerce and the Siuslaw School District is looking for businesses to provide a day when students can come learn about real life opportunities in business.  The Job Shadow Day will be on February 2nd.

High School to Showcase Career Technical Education

Tomorrow evening the Siuslaw High School will be the site of the business after hours.  School counselor Steve Moser says it will act as an open house to allow the community to get a look at special programs that the school has undertaken in Career Technical Education.  The event will begin at 5:30 in the schools common area.

Kiwanis Thanksgiving Dinner

The Florence Elks lodge will be hosting a free Thanksgiving dinner.  Thanksgiving Day, from noon until 2pm the Florence Kiwanis club along with volunteers from the community will be offering their annual free dinner with a traditional Thanksgiving fare.  The meal is open to all in the community and there is not cost, but donations will be accepted and will be used to fund programs for kids in the Florence community.
