ReVision Break

ReVision Florence will take a break over the next 2 weeks.  They finished up some concrete and paving work on Monday but will now be off until January 6th.  Project manager, Megan Messmer says that traffic control will remain in place during this period as the site is deemed an active construction zone.  Crews will be onsite periodically to maintain the lane closures and safety of the traffic control.  The City of Florence along with partners ODOT and Alex Hodge construction thank the community for their patience during construction.

New Rules

With 2020 looming the Oregon State Legislature is looking to new rules for the new year.  This year the legislature passed House Bill 3427, known as the Student Success Act which will dedicate more than $1 billion dollars per year to Oregon’s education system.  In addition Senate Bill 3 expands access to bachelor degree programs from the state’s community college system.  Senate Bill 420, yes 420, allows a person to apply to set aside convictions for possession, delivery, and manufacture of marijuana if their conviction is based on conduct that is no longer criminal by law.  It also seals those records and exempts the individual from applicable fees.

Veneta Man Killed

A tragic accident early Christmas morning on Highway 126 just east of Veneta closed the highway for four hours.   49 year old Travis Ewert of Veneta was killed while riding his bicycle at 4:30 am  it happened near Fisher road.  Ewert was struck by 25 year old Conrad Schwarzkopf driving his GMC Sierra pickup.  Schwarzkopf was not injured.  Oregon State Police finished the onsite investigation at around 9 am and did not say whether any citations were issued.
