Vikings Sending 8 to State in Wrestling
The Siuslaw Vikings were on the Mat over the weekend for the District wrestling championships. Six Viking boys advanced to the state tournament which is scheduled for this weekend. Matthew Horrillo took a first place finish in the 285 pound category and Christian Newlan also took first place in the 220 pound category to finish atop the district as district Champions. Also qualifying for state are Mason Buss, Elijah LaCosse, Ryan Jennings and Luis Infante-Marquez. The ladies will be sending Hayden Muller and Bailey Overton.
Sailors 3 Seed for 1A Basketball
The Mapleton Sailors will be headed to the State Playoffs as the third seed after defeating Crow on Saturday. Justyce Wierichs led the team with 29 points in the 56-30 win and was 12 of 15 from the foul line. JJ Neece followed with 12 and brother, Nate Neece, had 10. The Sailor’s travel to Day’s Creek for a Wednesday night game at 6pm. Coast Radio Sports will have live coverage of the game beginning at 5:45.
Vikings Miss Playoffs
The Siuslaw Vikings fought hard on Friday night taking Junction city to overtime, but late in OT Junction City’s Chris Ohman drained a couple of three pointers that took the game out of the Viking’s hands sending the Vikings down 56-63 ending their hopes for the state playoffs.
Pritchard Leads Ducks over Arizona
On Saturday the Oregon Ducks defeated the Arizona Wildcats in a nail-biter 73-72. Payton Pritchard rocked McKale Center with 38 points in the win.
Lady Ducks Defeat Cal
The Lady Ducks were in California Friday and Sabrina Ionescu had another triple double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for her 25th hat-trick. The Ducks downed the Golden Bears 93-61
Lady Beavers Drop Cal
The Oregon State Beaver’s women’s basketball team also had success against Cal yesterday afternoon. Mikayla Pivec had a milestone 1000th rebound as the Beavers downed the bears 76-63.
ASU Edges OSU
On Saturday the Beaver men were narrowly defeated by the ASU SunDevils 74-73.
