NCAA To Officially Recognize Sport; No Word Yet on Fall Sports

NCAA To Officially Recognize Sport

The sport of Tumbling and Acrobatics will finally get its due.  The Oregon Ducks have been a vanguard of promoting the sport.  The Ducks won their first national title in 2011, but up until recently the sport was not recognized by the NCAA.  This week the NCAA announce that it has approved Acrobatics and Tumbling in the category of Emerging Sports for Women Status.  This opens a window for the sport to earn the right to have its championship sanctioned by the premier governing body in college athletic.  Oregon’s athletic Director, Rob Mullens says they have been pushing for this for the last 10 years and is encouraged by what is on the horizon for the sport.  Oregon won the national title 4 years straight beginning in 2011

No Word Yet on Fall Sports

No new news has come out regarding the beginning of fall sports either in the prep or collegiate category.  Some activities have been opened to facilities, but it will be up to local school boards on what and when workouts can begin.  Coaches and athletes are hopeful that activities can begin soon.
