Vikings Advance; Cross Country Champions; League Honors; Ducks/Beavers

Vikings Advance

Friday night the Siuslaw Vikings held the Blanchet Catholic Cavaliers to just 6 points as the Vikings advanced to the next round of the 3A state championships.  The Vikings began the scoring with a 19 yard td pass to Camp Lacouture from Beau Erickson.  Later in the 1st quarter Ian Sissel would get a one yard run capped off by a beau Erickson 2 point conversion.  The Vikings led at the end of the first half 39-0 allowing for a running clock in the second half.  Early in the 4th a missed connection led to a Viking turnover and a touchdown run back for Blanchet.  The Vikings would get one more touchdown from junior Hunter Petterson to finish the night 45-6.  The Vikings will stay at home for the quarter finals this Friday against Cascade Christian.  The Vikings beat Cascade Christian in a close game in early October 38-34.

Cross Country Champions

It was a team effort on Saturday as the Siuslaw Viking Cross Country ran to victory in the 4A state Championships. The boys scored 42 points and took 3 of the top 7 spots including a second place finish from Chad Hughes who finished the 5000 meters behind Marshfield’s Alex Garcia-silver with a time of 16:30.70.  Sam Ulrich finished in fourth in 16:49:45.  The girls also took the 4A championship beating Philomath by one point to take the crown.  Rylee Colton finished in fifth place with a time of 19:39.9.

League Honors:

Jason Garcia received first team all league in Sky-Em All-League boy’s soccer. Honorable mentions went to juniors Noel Hernandez, Alex Goss and Derrik VanDuch.

In volleyball 1st team honors went to senior Hayden Muller and junior Desi Tupua.  Mylee Blake received second team honors and Zoe Alberty received and honorable mention.

League  honors are also out for the Cross Country teams with 1st team honors for all-league and all state going to Chad Hughes, Sam Ulrich and Kyle Hughes for the boys and first team all league for the girls Rylee Colton and Corduroy Holbrook and Rylee also earning 1st team all state honors.

2nd Team All-State: Addison McNeill

3rd Team All-State: Corduroy Holbrook

The Oregon Ducks keep their championship hopes alive by defeating the huskies on Saturday in a torrential downpour outlasting Washington 26-16

The OSU Beavers lost in double overtime 37-34 to Colorado.
