Vikings Semi-Final Game

The Siuslaw Vikings will be the home team in tomorrow’s semi-final football game.  The number one ranked 3A team will take on La Pine for the chance to move to the state championship.  This is Head Coach Sam Johnson’s first trip as a coach in just his second year.  The Vikings are undefeated this season.  While this is the first trip for Johnson as a coach, there is one person in town that has been where he is.  For 20 years Tim Dodson coached the Vikings, taking his teams to the State Semi Final 3 times.  This may be Johnson’s first trip as a coach, but Dodson say he is not likely doing anything different headed into Saturday’s Semi against the La Pine Hawks.

“My guess is he’s probably not changing a lot.  You just kind of keep doing what you’re doing and I think that’s probably the most important thing.   This game is no more important than the one they played last week or the one they played at the first of the year.  And, I’m pretty sure Sam probably is just kind of keeping that kind of idea and philosophy in mind.”

Dodson says he is proud of Johnson but added that no matter the outcome, it’s been a fun season, something he always said was the most important thing to keep in mind.  The un-defeated  Vikings kick off 1:00 tomorrow afternoon in Cottage Grove against the 7 and 3 Hawks.  Dodson had a 2 and 1 record in state semi-final games, reaching the final game twice.  You can hear an expanded version of Sneddon’s  interview with the former coach during tomorrow’s pregame show beginning at 12:30.
