School Responds to Tik-Tok Post

A Tik-Tok video threatening schools has caused concern for school districts around the nation.  The posting was originally to get students to skip school on the final day of classes but evolved into suggesting bomb threats and shooting threats.  The threats are not believed to be credible, but in a letter to parents from school superintendent Andy Grzeskowiak, says the school staff will be vigilant and that local police are aware of the threats.  There were no threats against any Siuslaw School and the tik-tok posting was not one that originated locally or even in Oregon according to the letter.  Parents are asked to speak to their children about what they are seeing on social media.

DUII Enforcement

The Florence Police department is getting the word out that there will be increased DUII Enforcement during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.  Extra officers will be out on December 24th and 25th and again on December 31st and January 1st.  grant funds have been provided for the extra patrols and law enforcement agencies across the state will be participating in the increased efforts.

District Lines For 2023

Lane County recently adopted new boundaries for voting districts and although there were no significant changes to the lines the county wanted to make sure that voters understood that the new lines will not go into effect until after the 2022 elections.  Because the county charter requires new districts to be identified at least 6 months prior to an election the boundaries would affect the May 2022 elections and thereby effecting the entire year’s voting.  The new districts were not approved until December 1st and would have to have been ratified by November 17th to make them legal for the 2022 elections.
