Viking Football

Siuslaw Viking Head Football Coach Sam Johnson says he is excited for the beginning of football season.  The players will be participating in team camp all this week and Johnson says the teams are coming together.  This year the coaching staff has added Jackson Johnson and Bob Teter have been a huge benefit for the Vikings.  Johnson says there will be a closed door scrimmage on Friday to solidify starter for the season.

Emeralds

The Eugene Emeralds ended up splitting the series with the Hillsboro Hops.  On Friday the Ems secured a win with a 5-1 score but lost on Saturday 2-5.  Last night the Ems were behind 2-1 when Vaun Brown hit a two run triple.  Brown scored on a third run on a sacrifice fly from Luis Matos.  Matos then excited the crowd in the top of the 7th with a grand slam home run.  Hillsboro would score one in the bottom of the eighth but the game would end with a pair of strike out by the Hops.  The Ems continue on the road against Tri-City beginning tomorrow.
