School Prepares For Return

Siuslaw School Superintendent Andy Grzeskowiak says there are no surprises for the new school year.  ODE directory Colt Gill recently released guidelines for the upcoming school year, but Grzeskowiak says there was nothing in them that change the way Siuslaw schools will approach the new year.

“Basically it’s a normal regular launch to school again the focus is on onsite in-person operations across the board, everybody is operating on the premise that we’re going to school all year, that’s really the Big Focus.”

There are some changes that will be coming as the school year begins.  Stand alone buildings are being prepared for some new classrooms and a new center of operations for the office.  Grzeskowiak says the office building will not open immediately due to a restructuring of the interior of the building, changes made to the office’s setup set back the delivery of the building.  But he expects that to be in operation in the month of September.  Safety and security and health are all big focuses for the 2022-2023 school year.

Water Break Reedsport

The city of Reedsport has experienced another water line break which has affected a portion of Crestview access road.  The break happened about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon.  Residents in the area experienced intermittent water outages during the repairs.

Caves Celebration

This Friday as Sea Lion Caves celebrates their 90th year of operation Sea Lion Caves will also present the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum with what is being called a significant financial gift to the museum.  The amount is being withheld until the celebration this Friday evening beginning at 5 pm at the museum located at 278 Maple Street.  Steve Saubert, one of the co-owners of Sea Lion Caves says the museum is one of the region’s treasures and they want to thank the museum for their support, not just of the caves, but for the history that it preserves.

Garage Sale

It is still a couple of weeks away, but area residents should begin to prepare for the community wide Garage Sale on September 9-11.  The annual event is a popular one, there is a $20 dollar fee to sign up, but that includes two signs and inclusion in a map that will be distributed through the Siuslaw News, online and at the Florence visitors center.  Deadline for participation to be included on the map is August 31st at 5pm.  Application for the garage sale is available at the Chamber’s website at florencechamber.com
