Viking Volleyball; Viking Soccer; Ems-Devils Split Series

Viking Volleyball

Friday’s volleyball jamboree was a good start to the season for the Siuslaw Vikings.  The Varsity girls went 3-1 on the day with their only loss coming from Marshfield.  Rhianna Lane led the Viks with 11 kills and 6 blocks.  Desi Tupua added 10 kills and 3 blocks. Ashlee Hennessee had 4 kills and 3 blocks.  The Vikings are schedule to meet Marshfield again tomorrow as well as North Bend.

Viking Soccer

Varsity Soccer Coach Londi Tomaro said the Vikings were visibly tired by the time the second half of Thursday’s game came along.  The Vikings had a one nothing lead early in the first half against Sweet Home.  Viking players had 12 shots on goal.  Sweet Home had a pair of shots but capitalized on one due in part to a goalie error.  The second half was more even with each team getting 5 shots on goal and Siuslaw Capitalizing on one two take the 2-1 victory.  They next face Junction city on Thursday on the road.

Ems-Devils Split Series

The Eugene Emeralds were topped by the Tri-City Dust Devils for the final two games of the series for a split.  After winning Friday’s game 14-2, the Ems struggled in the games to follow with a close 2-1 loss on Saturday and on Sunday Tri-City took an early lead and despite a 3 run 6th inning the Ems fell 6-3.  The Ems still remain a game and a half in the league over the Canadians.
