Vikings Win

     Girls

The Siuslaw Viking boys and girls ended the regular season in basketball in winning fashion. The Viking girls doubled the Douglas trojans with a 41-20 score as the team honored Senior team captain Mia Snider who missed most of the season with a knee injury.  The girls finish out the year 3-7 in league play and won 8 games this season. a stark improvement over last year’s 3-21 record.

     Boys

The Viking boys were not going to let the Trojans end their season undefeated. Coach Dylan Perry said the energy was there for the boys last night and they were prepared for the challenge.  The win puts the Vikings in a tie for second place, and they will have to face South Umpqua on Saturday.  but because of the win, the Vikings will be able to do it on their home turf.  final score last night: 44-38.  the Siuslaw South Umpqua game will be played on KCST beginning at 4:45 on Saturday.

Mapleton

The Lakers of Triangle Lake defeated the Mapleton boys in a league playoff last night.  The Sailors kept it close through much of the game, but in the end the Lakers pulled out the win 52-44.

The Mapleton Girls will have their playoff league championship game tomorrow against Alsea at 1:30. The boys play Alsea at 9am.

Wrestling

Siuslaw’s girls wrestling team heads into district competition this weekend. The Special District tournament is set for today and tomorrow at La Grande High School. The tournament will decide who represents State for the team.

College Basketball

Oregon women’s basketball rallied from 11 down in the fourth quarter to beat Nebraska 80-76 at Matthew Knight Arena Thursday night. The Ducks outscored the Huskers 28-15 in the final period, with a freshman spark off the bench helping fuel a 15-2 run to take the lead for good. Oregon improves to 19-9 overall and 7-8 in Big Ten play.

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team will face USC tomorrow in LA beginning at 12:30 on KCST.

Oregon State used a dominant third quarter, including a 17-0 run, to pull away from Portland for a 64-54 win Thursday night at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers scored 24 points in the third to erase a halftime deficit and now hold a 2-game edge for a top 4 seed in the conference tournament with 3 games remaining.

The Beaver men will play Pepperdine on Saturday on KCFM beginning at 4:30

College Baseball

Beaver baseball will be in Texas for three games this weekend starting with Baylor this afternoon, Southern Miss on Saturday and Purdue on Sunday.

The Beavers beat Youngstown yesterday with a blistering 18 runs and allowing only 1.  They have 3 more games against Youngstown scheduled. one today, tomorrow and Sunday.
