Viking Wrestling

Two Lady Vikings are headed to state. Senior Danin Lacouture placed second at 140 pounds at the Special District 2 Championships, while sophomore Molly Mills finished fourth at 125 to qualify for the OSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships. The state meet runs Feb. 26-28 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Vikings Advance to Playoffs

With just seconds left on the clock the Siuslaw Viking dropped two point shot to put them in the lead 56-55 against South Umpqua on Saturday.  The Viking boys gave up the lead for the first time with just about 2 minutes left in the game and then battled back and forth to come out the victors. Coach Dylan Perry:

“Got down at the end of the game, they executed exactly how we needed to, we were down by one with limited time left and then they made a huge defensive stop and it was a pretty good feeling” when the buzzer went off. the Vikings will play Santiam Christian tomorrow beginning at 6:45 on KCST.

Mapleton Girls Baskteball

The Mapleton Girls basketball team finished off Alsea on Saturday led by Lucie Burruss.  holding on to the lead in the final minutes to come away with a 41-38 win and a Mountain West League championship.  the girls will now host a playoff game on Wednesday at 5:45 against St. Paul. the Buckaroos finished second in the Casco league with a 17-10 record.  the game will air on KCST followed by the Oregon Ducks matchup immediately following.

Ducks Edge USC

Oregon closed on a 7-0 run in the final 51 seconds to edge USC 71-70 Saturday at the Galen Center. Nate Bittle hit two free throws with 10 seconds left for the game-winner. Kwame Evans Jr. led the Ducks with 21 points as Oregon improved to 10-17 overall.

Beavers Win Over Pepperdine

Six Beavers scored in double figures as Oregon State defeated Pepperdine 83-73 Saturday at Gill Coliseum. Josiah Lake II led OSU with 18 points, while Olavi Suutela and Johan Munch each posted double-doubles. The Beavers improved to 15-14 overall and 8-8 in WCC play.

Lady Beavers Over Washington State

Jenna Villa hit a career-high six 3-pointers and Kennedie Shuler scored 20 points as Oregon State rolled past Washington State 79-51 Saturday at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers improved to 20-9 overall and 12-4 in WCC play, moving into solo third place in the conference.

Duck Women Lose to Indiana

Despite 27 points and 17 rebounds from Ehis Etute, the Oregon women fell at Indiana 72-65 Sunday. The Ducks rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit and briefly led in the fourth quarter, but Indiana hit 4 3-pointers in the final period to seal the win. Oregon drops to 19-9 overall.
