Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Siuslaw basketball player Owen Burtt as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Owen averaged 10 points and 9 rebounds a game in our two biggest wins against Douglas and South Umpqua this week. He also shut down the opposing teams all-league post in both games to propel the Vikings to victory.
Honorable Mention
Honorable Mention goes to Molly Mills, who battled through a tough bracket this weekend. She wrestled 7 hard-fought matches, winning 5, and placed 4th to qualify for state — including a narrow 1-0 semifinal loss to returning state runner-up Victoria Keller of Oakridge.
Playoff Basketball: Siuslaw
The Siuslaw Vikings will be on the court this evening for a 3A playoff matchup against Santiam Christian. Jay Nilles and Joe Giammono will be broadcasting the game on KCST beginning at 6:45. The winner will go up against Cascade Christian on the 27th. The Vikings survived their first post season match against South Umpqua 56-55 on Saturday.
Mapleton
The Mapleton Sailor Girls have their first playoff following their Mountain West League Championship on Saturday. They will host a home game against St. Paul.
