Perry Explains Coaching Change
Siuslaw High School’s head baseball coach has stepped down following player concerns about the program. Athletic Director Max Perry says a group of players recently brought forward complaints, but an internal review found no grounds for termination. A plan for improvement had been put in place. Coach Derek Wells returned to practice Wednesday, but after meeting with players, chose to resign. Assistant Coach Dan Rankin will take over for the remainder of the season, Perry thanked Wells for his commitment to Siuslaw baseball at both the school and community level.
Siuslaw Knocks Out Double-Header Win
On the mound Siuslaw swept a doubleheader against Toledo on Thursday, winning 7-0 and 4-1. In game one, Zak Nilles was dominant, allowing just three hits in a shutout performance. Jacob Mann drove in three runs, while Siuslaw took advantage of eight walks and six stolen bases. In game two, Mann took over on the mound, striking out 11 and giving up just one run over seven innings. Lucca Flosi delivered the key hit, driving in two runs to give the Vikings the lead. Micah Blankenship added two hits, and Siuslaw played error-free defense in the win. The Vikings are back in action Tuesday when they host South Umpqua.
