Baseball and Softball Win Double-Headers
The Siuslaw Viking Baseball team moves to 6-6 in league play on the season after a dominant performance against Coquille on Friday. in Game one Zak Nilles pitched a no-hitter through 5 innings. the game was shortened by the 10 run rule as the Vikings won 17-0. Seniors Micah Blankenship and Jordan Pitcher and freshman Torelan DeSantis combined for a three-hitter in the nightcap. winning 20-3. The Siuslaw Vikings softball team pounded out 35 hits Friday, sweeping Coquille in Far West League play. Senior Charley Johnson combined to go 7-for-8 with 5 runs scored, while freshman Che Bruce drove in 6 runs on the day. Chloe Clark earned the nightcap win with 5.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out 8. Siuslaw opens a 3-game series Tuesday at Glide.
Track and Field Success
Siuslaw’s boys and girls track and field teams both finished second Saturday at the 18-school Junction City Invitational. Senior Thomas Morgan, junior Aidell Cadet, and sophomore Henry Stone each won 2 events for the Vikings. Morgan took the 200 meters and the 400, both in personal best times. Stone won the 800 and the 1,500, also posting season or personal bests. Cadet won the high jump and the triple jump, setting a personal best and school record in the triple jump at 38’2.75”. Senior Danin Lacouture won the shot put, and sophomore Maely Chiang won the discus with a personal best on her final throw. Siuslaw competes next at the Pat and Joane Towne Invitational Wednesday and the Wally Ciochetti Invitational Friday.
College Sports
The Oregon Ducks took 2 of 3 from the Huskies over the weekend losing yesterday’s game 9-5. the Oregon State Beavers are on a 6 game winning streak after disposing of Long Beach State in three straight. winning yesterday 8-4.
The Oregon Duck Softball team will host a regional beginning this Friday. the Ducks earned a 14 seed and will face Big Sky Champions Idaho State. Oregon State missed the 64 team tournament.
