Remember Your Pets on the 4th

The Oregon Coast Humane Society is reminding pet owners to take precautions ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. Fireworks can cause fear and anxiety in animals and often lead to an increase in lost pets. The shelter recommends making sure pets have ID tags and current microchip information, keeping them indoors during fireworks, securing doors and gates, and creating a calm space away from noise. Executive Director Elizabeth Thompson says even calm pets can panic at the sound of fireworks, and a few simple steps can prevent heartbreak. Anyone who loses or finds a pet is asked to contact Oregon Coast Humane Society at 541-997-4277.

Suicide Prevention Walk Planned

The Western Lane Crisis Response team is inviting the community to take part in the Western Lane Suicide Prevention Walk and Health Expo on Saturday, September 26th at Miller Park. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with participants welcome to join the walk at any time during those hours. Health and resource booths will also be on site, providing information on mental health, wellness, crisis services and community programs. Organizers say the event is designed to promote hope, raise awareness, and remind those struggling that they are not alone. Additional details will be announced as the event approaches.

Fire Restrictions

The Siuslaw National Forest has implemented Stage One Public Use Restrictions effective Monday due to hot and dry conditions, while fire danger remains at a moderate level. Campfires and other open fires are now prohibited outside designated campgrounds and recreation sites. Portable stoves and lanterns using bottled fuel are still allowed. Smoking is restricted to enclosed vehicles, buildings, or developed recreation sites. Officials say the restrictions will remain in effect until rescinded and are urging visitors to check current conditions before heading into the forest.
