Highway 126 open following double fatal crash

Oregon State Police have reopened Highway 126, one mile East of Mapleton following the investigation of a single vehicle crash that claimed two lives.

An earlier account of the crash alluded to a log truck being involved, but Troopers on the scene said a car, carrying four or five Mapleton High School students, was the only vehicle involved.  The car apparently left the roadway, landing on its top.

Two deaths were reported at the scene, with three patients being transported to Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence.

No names have been released yet, pending notification of relatives.
