Viking Volleyball splits on the road

The Siuslaw Vikings came away from a long night last night with a non-league split on the volleyball court in Newport.

They opened with a tough 5-game loss to Junction City in which Ali Scheer had 12 perfect serve-receive passes and two aces.

In the nightcap, the Viks beat Newport in five. Hannah Bartlett produced 25 assists.

Kill leader for the night: Elyssa Rose with 25 total, along with ten stuff-blocks. Makenzie York was almost as deadly. She had 18 kills and seven stuff-blocks.

The Vikings open the Far West League season Tuesday on the road against the South Umpqua Lancers.

Mapleton seeking first win

The Mapleton Sailors are still in search of their first win of the season. They lost last night three-nothing to the Wolverines in Alsea. Their first home match of the season is Tuesday night against Eddyville Charter.

Viking XC in Polk County

On the Cross Country course, the Siuslaw Vikings will be compete in day two tomorrow of the Ash Creek Cross Country Festival hosted by Western Oregon University in Monmouth.

Prep football

Tonight; the Siuslaw Vikings are at home against the Pleasant Hill Billies. That game kicks off at seven; the pregame show on Coast Radio Sports is at 6:45.

The Mapleton Sailors will take to the field for the first time this season today. They’re in Maupin where they’ll kick off against the South Wasco County Redsides at five.

On the college gridiron:

Oregon State will be at the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan where they’ll take on the Wolverines at Nine AM tomorrow… The pregame show on KCFM is at eight. Number Seven Oregon will be at Number Five Michigan State at five… the pregame show from East Lansing, Michigan is set for 3:30.
