Dozens of car clouts reported in the area

About two-dozen Florence residents have reported items stolen from their cars while parked in their own driveways over the past three days. Florence Police Lieutenant John Pitcher says most of them have been in two different areas.

John Pitcher – “The first night we had several in Florentine and then the next night we had several out off of Rhody in that Shelter Cove Area.”

Additional illegal vehicle entries were reported in the Florentine area again yesterday. Pitcher said with one exception, all had one thing in common… the vehicles were unlocked.

John Pitcher – “If somebody really wants in, they can get in. But most of these times, and it looks like these are opportunists. And they are just walking and they’re trying to find cars that are unlocked. And when they find car that is unlocked, they pop it open and they take whatever they want.”

Pitcher also said there may be others that were not aware that their vehicles were entered. He said some items have been recovered, but he is urging residents to lock their cars and don’t leave items of value inside them.

Burn ban remains in place

Despite several heavy rain storms over the past two weeks, the Lane Fire Authority is holding firm to a November 1st return to open burning in rural areas of Western Lane County.

The Fire Authority is comprised of fire chiefs and other administrators throughout the county. They meet regularly to assess things like fire danger and mutual aid responses.

The authority also works closely with the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency.

Open burning usually resumes October 1st, but the Fire Authority delayed that this year citing a higher than usual fire danger in September.

No ballot?  No worry if you live in Western Lane County

Haven’t received your ballot for the November 3rd election yet?

If you live in Western Lane County, you won’t get one because there is nothing to decide.

Often there are few items on the general election ballot in odd-numbered years.

Voters in the central county have a few money measures they’re voting on this month. Lane County Clerk Cheryl Betschart says if they haven’t received a ballot yet and they believe they are registered, they should call her office immediately.

Voters in Western Lane County will have plenty of things to help decide in coming months… The presidential primaries will be on the May ballot; as will a special primary for Governor.
