Paving Scheduled For ReVision Florence

Beginning today through Friday the revision Florence project will focus on day work.  The project was preparing for paving later in the week, but weather conditions will have to be right for it to progress.  Rain is expected in the forecast through Wednesday of this week which could hamper efforts.  According city project manager, Megan Messmer the contractors have requested to do night work on Friday and Saturday.  The city has approved the request, but has restricted the work to areas north of Maple Street.  Streets were open over the weekend for the 12th annual Rods and Rhodies festival, some street closures are expected to occur this week.

Kyle Building Preservation

Rehabilitation work has begun on the historic Kyle Building in Old Town Florence. The project will install a new roof and gutters, complete structural and flooring repairs, update plumbing, and paint the exterior of the 1901 William & Sons Kyle Building. This work is funded in part by an Oregon Main Street Revitalization grant from the State Historic Preservation Office, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce was awarded the matching grant earlier this year, in collaboration with the Kyle Building owners.  Evan Garrett, of Garrett Remodeling LLC, recently began replacing worn and damaged boards in the original wood flooring inside the Bridgewater Restaurant. Garrett has been the primary contractor maintaining the Kyle Building for over 20 years. He will also be completing structural repairs to the roof and painting the building.

Bridge Upgrades

Work continues north of Florence on a pair of bridges on highway 101.  Some slight delays are possible at the Cape Creek Bridge to the north as well as the Cape Perpetua Half Viaduct.  Necessary upgrades to the bridges are being conducted including the installation of a wind turbine generator beneath the Cape Perpetua project.  Work will continue with completion expected by the end of 2020.
