Mapleton Wins League Opener; Duck Men Flounder; Beaver Men Fall; Duck Women Hit Milestone; On The Schedule

Mapleton Wins League Opener

The Mapleton sailors were in Alsea last night for Mountain West League action. The girls were up first.  Coach Molly Dooley says she is seeing improvement every game.  She says defense was key last night as Mapleton led in takeaways.  They outscored the eagles 37-29. Briena Jensen led with 12 points for the Sailors.

The Sailor Boys also showed up to play last night holding the Eagles to just 4 points in the first half.  Justyce Wierichs led the sailors with 28 points and Nate Neece added 17 in the 60-16 blowout.

Duck Men Flounder

Washington State upset the Oregon Men last night in Pullman.  Outscoring the Ducks 72-61.  The Cougars outshot the Ducks with 11 three pointers and went 11 for 17 from the line.  Payton Pritchard led the Ducks with 22 in the loss.

Beaver Men Fall

The Oregon State Beavers were in Seattle where they were taken down by the Huskies 64-56.  The Huskies had 5 players in double figures.

Duck Women Hit Milestone

The Duck Women put one in the history books last night as they took down #3 Stanford.  Sabrina Ionescu scored a career high 37 points in the 87-55 victory becoming the Ducks all time leading scorer.  The Duck women play California on Sunday in Eugene at 2pm.

On The Schedule

The Oregon State women play this evening at 7 against Cal in Corvallis.

The Ducks will face the Huskies in Saturday in Seattle.  Pregame on KCST is at 12 noon, tipoff is set for 12:45.  Oregon State will play Washington State in Pullman, Saturday.  Pregame on KCFM is at 1:30, tip off between the Beavers and Cougars is at 2 o’clock.

Prep basketball tonight, the Vikings open the Sky-Em League season with double header play in Cottage Grove against the Lions.  Pregame for the boy’s game on KCST is at 5:30, tip off for game one is at 5:45. The girls game follows at 7:15.

Prep wrestling Saturday has Siuslaw hosting a multi team meet for the Nick Lutz invitational with Churchill, Cottage Grove, Elmira, North Bend, Sutherlin, Willamette and Taft high schools.
