Shooting Investigation Update

We still do not know the identities of the couple found shot in Southview on Tuesday, but Lane County Sheriff’s detectives have given some insight into what they think occurred at the residence north of Florence.  Tuesday morning at 6:17 am the Lane County Sheriff’s office received a report of a possible shooting.  Deputies, Oregon State Police and Florence police responded to the call in the SouthView neighborhood to find a 71 year old deceased woman and her 75 year old husband suffering with a gunshot wound.  The Sheriff’s investigation concluded that the woman shot her husband and then shot herself.  The man continues to receive medical attention.  Next of kin as of this broadcast have not yet been notified.

Clearing Brush

Brush and debris that has been collecting at the south end of the Florence Municipal Airport is being removed.  The pile had been encroaching on the Obstruction Clear Zone on runway 33 that is created by FAA regulations.  Weather and the ability to have a trackhoe and mulcher on site has delayed the removal of the pile, but clear weather the past several days has allowed for the removal to begin.  Public Works Director Mike Miller says after mulching, the debris will be used in the biosolids composting program which benefits the community by reducing biosolids costs and producing a great soil amendment.

Paving Continues

The Paving continues on Highway 101 and 126 today.  Most of the intersection of 101 and 126 was completed yesterday and should be finished today according to ODOT.  There are also a few side street connections that are expected to be completed today.  Traffic patterns will change throughout the day as paving work is done and patience is requested by drivers that have to access that area.  As always, motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes into Old Town like Quince Street or Kingwood Street.  Paving is expected to be completed by this evening or tomorrow at the latest.

OCMM Appoints New Board Members

The Oregon Coast Military Museum has announce the appointment of two new board members.  United States Air Force Veteran Ray Barzart and Krystal Hopper who has extensive background with working with Veteran Organizations.  Barzart says this is the best way he could find to give back to the community and Hopper says she wants to ensure that the community has a source for the history the Museum provides.
