Cases Dip For State and County
Over the weekend the number of coronavirus cases across the state and across Lane County has mimicked the nationwide total with fewer cases being reported. In Lane County there were 173 cases for the three day total which is almost 50% less than the previous weekend. Cases for the Florence area have been minimal, but the city is seeing cases increase. There was one new case over the weekend bringing the total to Florence to 152 cases. Statewide there were 1863 cases since Thursday evenings totals were released. There were also 26 deaths reported.
Lane County Website Down
Thousands of individuals in Lane County went to the Lane County Website only to find that the site was down. On Friday the county reported that they believed that the crash was part of the number of people trying to register for the COVID-19 vaccine, but it turned out to be a glitch with the vendor that hosts the site. CivicLive, according to the county’s official release, said there was no timeline for the repair and as of this morning the site was still down, but a link to certain pages from the site had been posted in its place. City Announces Promotion
The City of Florence announced on Friday through its monthly news letter that City Projects Manager Megan Messmer has been promoted to Assistant City Manager. Messmer will also retain her role as the city’s Public Information Officer. Messmer has been with the city for 8 years. Part of her new responsibilities will be to oversee the Florence Events Center. She was acting city manager during City Manager Erin Reynolds medical leave in late summer and fall of 2020.
Work Plan Meeting Scheduled
The Florence City Council will meet on Wednesday morning for a special work session to begin reviewing the Florence work plan for the next biennium. The city is completing the budget and plan that is currently in place in June.
