New Report of Scam
The Lane County Sheriff’s department is warning of a new scam involving persons impersonating Sheriff’s office employees. According to Sergeant Tom Speldrich the scammers are identifying themselves either verbally, by text or by email as employees of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office even going so far as using names of actual sheriff’s office personel. The call back number that they supply takes you to a phone tree system that is designed to sound like an official Lane County phone tree. The scammers commonly use claims of warrants, missed jury duty or unsettled legal business that involve the victim or someone the victim knows. Speldrich says the Sheriff’s office will never ask for money, awards, or compensation of any type over the phone. If you are contacted by someone claiming to be a Lane County Sheriff’s office employee you are asked to contact the dispatch center at 541-682-4150 and use option 1.
Public Arts Committee
The City of Florence’s Public Arts Committee meets this evening at 5:30. The committee will hear from Robert Killen of Regional Accelerator Innovation Network as well as a presentation of the Art Exposed 2022 from the Art Exposed Sub-Committee. The sub-committee will be reporting on the latest round of art work for the rotating art display around Florence. 20 artists have been selected for review and potential approval by the committee. Artists and their work is available in the PAC meeting packet on the city’s website ci.florence.or.us. the public is invited to participate in the process.
FRAA
The Florence Regional Arts Alliance is finishing up their display at the Florence Events Center this month. The exhibit follows the theme of Coastal Living with “artwork reflective of Florence’s diverse coastal Life.”FRAA board president Kristin Anderson says the Florence Community has come together in so many ways that they wanted to choose a theme that reflected the spirit of the community. She commends the Chamber for allowing many of the galleries and studios in Florence the opportunity to exhibit their artwork. FRAA also offers classes to the community and has a youth exhibit at their Art Center and Gallery on Maple Street.
