Group Protests Drag Show

Under a blanket of anonymity protestors gathered in front of Florence Golf Links at around 1pm on Saturday to stand up against what they called grooming pedophiles in our school system.  19 individuals dressed in tan pants and black shirts most with their faces covered held signs and shouted obscenities at some and waved at others that honked as they drove by.  The group of out-of-towners organized to protest an all ages drag show that was going on at a rented space withing the Golf courses clubhouse. a spokesman for the group who would not give his name said that they would not stand by while “pedophiles” infiltrated the schools.

“Our Goal is to have Jason Woods resignation in hand. He has no business being in a position where he is warping children’s minds”

Wood who is not currently associated with the Siuslaw School district is currently running for a seat on the school board.  Wood says he has no plans to quit and that the protests only sparked him to double down his efforts to get elected.

“If they want to peaceably protest down there and like make assumptions about who I am, do it, knock yourself out, way to spend a Saturday, but i can’t give it that much of my energy, I’ve got to tell you.”

On hand to make sure things stayed peaceable was the majority of on duty Florence police officers along with assistance from Lane County Sheriff’s department and the Oregon State Police.  FPD Chief John Pitcher said their presence was just to ensure that things stayed peaceable.  There were no reports of violence.

Water Boil, Again for Mapleton

The Mapleton Water District is once again under a boil water notice.  Yesterday the district experienced another loss of water pressure potentially causing harmful bacteria to be sucked into the system.  Anyone on the Mapleton water system needs to boil their water for a full minute at a rolling boil.  Efforts are underway to identify the source of the loss of pressure and district staff will notify the public when it is once again safe to drink the water.

Hospital Systems Struggling

Hospital systems are beginning to see the lasting effect of COVID-19 on their bottom line and are reacting to changes from significant losses over the past several years.  PeaceHealth has lost more than 1 billion dollars since the pandemic started.  This has caused the hospital to restructure some of its programs in order to curb future losses.  One of the changes is coming to its palliative care program.  The hospital is combining some aspects of it hospice program with palliative care in order to reduce administrative costs along the division.  This will specifically impact services at Peace Harbor hospital as the changes to PeaceHealth will remove the administrative support for the entire hospital system.
